My car was ready for the snow this morning, idling happy in it’s new hankook winter i*cept iz2 shoes. The ice snapped off the windows like so many chunks of peanut brittle as I hit them with the scraper, falling to the ground with a dull thud. Was I ready? Could I really be Winter Subaru Man™ again?
The shovel handle felt hard in my hand as an icy gust bit at my face and laughed at my audacity to stand against it s force. My back strained against the weight of wet snow. I am but one man, and winter is a very large and powerful season. Who am I to think I can dare to oppose it?
Then it happens. I close the door, taking momentary reprieve in the warm air blowing back at my face. I grip the wheel and feel the satisfying snick as I shift into first. My toe dips into the accelerator pedal like one checks the temperature of a pool. As if to answer my questioning, the deep burble of the engine awakens into a healthy growl. Nosing into the roadway, I push deeper into the pedal and laugh as the car slides out of sorts, then claws back to a straight line and launches forward like a leopard lunging at prey. “Yes” I say, to no one in particular. I am ready too.

Thanks! I think no matter what Subaru you end up going with you’ll be happy with snows on sparco terras and rally lights. I like appearance mods but am really more about practical things. These just happen to do both

Thanks! Best choice I ever made 5+ years ago. These days I’m feeling a little hipster about them ‘I bought them before they were cool’... but I really do think they look good on everything

It’s the way of the business world, I suppose. Cool car becomes cool trim line becomes an even more watered down trim line. Use that marketing capital until the name is so diluted the name is now meaningless, but still looks good on a brochure.
I’m happy there is a new outback XT with a turbo, but I doubt we’ll ever get back to the time where you could get one with a manual and swap parts back and forth with the WRX/STI . I have no illusion that my car is a WRX, but it is true that a lot of ‘08-’13 wrx parts are shared, and some STI parts just bolt right on. To an outback. It’s a cool slice of Subaru history

I enjoy it. Wish it had a turbo...
Just got it last year and that pic was from my first experience with AWD. Car had these tires on it at the time and it still climbed that hill behind the car with no issue. It’s cheating.

Tires are hankook winter i*cept iz2 in 225/60R 16. Nothing crazy - I bought the rims before I was married with kids and a mortgage, and now I just put whatever tires I can afford on them. They’ve already gotten some good use this years with multiple snowy commutes so far. I’ve never tried true off roading with my outback as it’s geared pretty tall and the clutch wouldn’t be happy trying to crawl. I’ve definitely taken it plenty of places you wouldn’t take a normal car though!
